Ski Green with the Green Ski Resort Guide.
I know that it’s summertime in the USA and skiing is probably the last thing on your mind. But the snow is falling in some parts of the world, including mine, and that means ski season.
This time of year, you can go skiing in New Zealand, Australia, and parts of South America.
But before you go, you might want to find out who’s green and who’s greener with the updated Green Ski Resort Guide. Compiled by Scottish ski journalist Patrick Thorne, it lists over 250 areas around the world, highlighting how green they are. You can do your own search or just browse the list of 255 resorts to find the ones that meet your green criteria.
So how green are the ski resorts?
Well, according SkiRebel Magazine, who analysed the guide…
- 25 per cent of our 250 resorts can be reached by train (most of them in Switzerland).
- Fifty three ski areas worldwide – just over a fifth of the ski areas included - are 100% green powered (either directly or by offsetting).
- 50 ski areas worldwide make some or all of their own power from renewable natural sources.
- 12 resorts recycle heat from machinery like ski lifts and snowguns to heat buildings or similar.
Sounds promising…
