Wine, food, and solar power are on the menu at the first ever ‘Solarbration’ hosted by three Rutherford wineries. Located in the middle of Napa County, Rutherford is considered the ‘most solar’ community in the San Francisco Bay area, with more than 1,000 solar watts per capita.
This summer solstice event will be held on June 21st at the Hoing, Peju, and ZD Wineries between 5.30pm and sunset. Guest will be offered special wine tastings, gourmet foods, and a behind the scenes tour of the solar energy systems that power each of these wineries…
Hoing Wineries went solar in 2006 and has a 146 kW system that consists of 819 modules, one of largest ’solar power farms’ in Napa Valley generating 100% of it’s power.
Peju also went solar in 2006 with a 126 kW system consisting of 720 panels installed above all the work areas, providing for 36% of their energy needs.
ZD has only gone solar this year, with the installation of a 125 kW system consisting of 712 modules that produces 100% of their energy needs.

Always great to see how wineries often lead the way in environmental concern and protection.
One of the ways you can give such wineries your support is to never buy wine in heavy weight bottles.
Should you visit South Africa then we would like to see you at Backsberg Estate Cellars - established 1916 - carbon neutral since 2006.
