Greenwash: Six Sins to Watch Out For.
Green-wash - verb: the act of misleading consumers regarding the environmental practices of a company or the environmental benefits of a product or service. (TerraChoice)
Not all companies are completely honest in their ‘green’ status. Some seem quite happy to take the tag but not the actions required to be truly green. Instead, they sort of greenwash themselves.
But how do you know whether they are ‘greenwashing’ or not ?
TerraChoice, an environmental marketing company, has the answer. They have come up with six easy ways to distinguish green fact from fiction with their ‘Six Sins of Greenwashing’ guide.
The six sins they talk about are the…
- Sin of the Hidden Trade-Off
- Sin of No Proof
- Sin of Vagueness
- Sin of Irrevelance
- Sin of Fibbing
- Sin of the Lesser of Two Evils
Read TerraChoice’s Study on Environmental Claims in North American Consumer Markets to learn more about these commonly practiced sins and how to recognize them.
And to make it even easier for us, TerraChoice has created a free wallet card of the Six Sins that can print off and carry with you at all times.
