Green Travel in the Middle East.
These days when I hear the words ‘green’ and the ‘middle east’ in the same sentence, I usually think Iraq’s ‘green zone’. But it turns out that there is much more ‘green’ in the middle east than you might realize.
A recent article at The Huffington Post Eco-Touring in the Middle East: How About Jordan, Iran and Lebanon? highlights Middle Eastern companies that are starting to cater to the ecologically minded. From treking through the desert on a camel to backpacking through untouched forests, Jordan, Lebanon, and even Iran offer numerous eco-friendly holidays.
This Huffington Post article lists a number of companies that appear to offer ‘green tours’ but also points out that because there are no current organizations or initiatives in the Middle East to regulate and certifiy the sustainability standards and practices of companies claiming to be eco-friendly, it’s advisable to contact the tour company direct to find out what their exact eco-friendly status is.
