Did you read Plenty Magazine’s Top Ten Eco Innovations for a Better Planet ?
My favorite from the list was the Bamboo Bicycle. After all, what could be a more low carbon means of transport (except, maybe, walking).
The Bamboo Bicycle Project is a collaboration between the Columbia University’s Earth Institute and bike builder Craig Calfee from Calfee Design. Their aim - to examine the feasibility of implementing cargo bikes made of bamboo as a sustainable form of transportation in Africa.

This is a great idea. My only beef is that in African communities it is the men who get to ride and own bikes. When I was in Kenya, I did not see a single woman riding a bike. You don’t see a single woman riding one in either of these videos, either. Yet, they are saying bikes can help bring wealth to a community in many ways. I’d like to see this benefit women as well.
