Baseball Has Gone Green.
According to a recent Washington Post article, it’s more than likely that your favorite baseball team has gone, or is going, green.
Baseball parks throughout the country have many green features…
- recycling bins for plastic cups
- solar panels are providing at least some of the energy
- Men’s rooms with no-flush urinals to save water.
- the use of chemically benign cleaners
- more energy-efficient vending machines.
As for the baseball teams, they are also making efforts to reduce their environmental impact. Earlier this year Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a non-profit environmental group, have joined together to make baseball more earth-friendly. The NDRC has created the Team Greening Program, an online software tool that is designed to help every baseball team in the MLB to become more environmentally friendly.
Here’s one example of this partnership…

This is also happening in Japan. The two leagues here have imposed a time limit between innings to try and shorten game times and electricity use. Mazda is also stepping up to the plate and providing green energy to Japan’s all star game.

Hi Shane, glad to hear it’s not just a US thing. I’d hazarded a guess it’s not just baseball either…
Joe, thanks for the link. Will check it out.
