Top 10 Green Ski Resorts in Western U.S.

Are you planning a ski holiday in the western United States?

The Ski Area Environmental Scorecard 2008/2009 has ranked the Top 10 Green Ski Resorts in the western United States.   The western U.S. ski resorts have been graded on their environmental policies and practices.

The Scorecard is a service of the Ski Area Citizens’ Coalition (SACC), comprised of Colorado Wild, the Crystal Conservation Coalition (Washington State), Friends of the Inyo (California) and The Sierra Nevada Alliance (California) . The 2008/2009 Scorecard includes the latest information on resorts like purchasing clean, renewable wind energy to logging old growth forests.

Top Ten:

1. Aspen Mountain Ski Resort, Colorado

2. Buttermilk Mountain Ski Resort, Colorado

3. Sundance Resort, Utah

4. Park City Mountain Resort, Utah

5. Squaw Valley USA, California

6. Alpine Meadows Ski Area, California

7. Aspen Highlands Ski Resort, Colorado

8. Bogus Basin Mountain Resort, Idaho

9. Mt. Bachelor Ski Area, Oregon

10. Telluride Ski Resort, Colorado

    Great list! If I was picky I will ask for a list fir Europe and to be really a pain in the ass for France. Good work, keep going!

    I’ve only been to one on this list: Telluride. I’ve skied in Utah and in Tahoe but not in the cities on this list. Good list. Makes me want to go. Not because they’re green, really–You find health-conscious and earth-conscious people in these regions–but because snow is beautiful, skiing is fun, and cool weather is nice for a change.
