What’s Green…at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado.

It’s all happening at Denver this week. The Democratic National Convention will be in full swing and it keeps on telling us that it’s a green one.

So what is so green at the DNC?

Well, to start off with, there are free bikes available for temporary use. Apparently there will be seven bike stations situated in downtown Denver all this week, with staff on hand over these two-wheelers to anyone interested in wheeling around Denver for an hour or two.

Those attending the convention will have their food served on corn-based plastic dinnerware and plenty of people around to make sure that when your done, the scraps (food and plastic) all end up in the right bins.

Delegates will be moved around the city via buses run on biodisel and any official cars will be either fuel-efficient conventional vehicles or hybrid flex fuel vehicles that run a high mix of ethanol.

The stage at the Pepsi Center where the majority of speeches will take place, is made up of 80 percent reused materials - materials that will be redistributed for community after the convention - and the center will be powered by wind energy.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Check out the Democratic National Convention’s official green page to see what else is green at the DNC. Or check out The Huffington Post’s comprehensive Green Guide to the DNC.

The City Tour for Solar will also be in Denver during the convention. This mobile museum-quality, interactive, hands-on educational exhibit on photovoltaic (PV) solar is traveling across the country, stopping in 50 cities during the 100 days it’s on the road. While in Denver, the City Tour for Solar will be on display at the Green Frontiers Fest and the New Energy Station at Sculpture Park. And on the 27th of August it will be at the SEIA’s Sun Fest Concert at Coor’s Field.

The City Tour of Solar is also hosting a DNC blogger / Green Blogger breakfast on the 26th of August at The Big Tent opposite the Union Train Station. Get your invite here.

And for those of you who happen to find yourselves in Denver this week and have absolutely no interest in the convention, check out Flyaway Cafe’s 12 Things to do in Denver Besides the Democratic National Convention. My pick, the Denver Botanic Gardens.

Imagine free transport that’s also green. Sounds like a dream come true in these days of increasing fuel costs.

Anyone living in or  visiting Tampa, Florida has a chance to try out this free, green transport provided by the Green Go Company.

The Green Go Company has a fleet of three of electric motor carts that wander around the city, taking office workers to lunch and tourists to city attractions.

And if you’re wondering how a company can survive without charging a fee, it’s simple really. The overheads are almost non-existent and the drivers make money through tips - a win, win situation for everyone involved.
